PLEASE NOTE: This session is now set for Friday and Saturday, March 23-24 rather than the earlier dates initially publicized. SESSION DESCRIPTION This two-day workshop is designed for Microsoft IT Academy teachers who already understand MSITA resources and where to find them, but need help understanding Word, Publisher and PowerPoint better and most importantly planning quality lessons that prepare students for the certification exam. In addition to training in the content, participants will receive a roadmap for teaching this portion of the course using a blend of resources from Microsoft Lesson Plans, eLearning, and resources shared by teachers or adapted or developed for ExplorNet. This session is well suited for teachers who have already attended an ExplorNet 'Getting Started in MSITA' session. Others are also encouraged to attend. Participants should already have their Microsoft ITA name and password and should already understand how to access resources for teaching and testing students. Instructors Valleri Harris and Linda Mackey have both worked to provide quality training sessions for MSITA and Multimedia and Webpage Design teachers. Ms. Harris took part in the pilot and first full implementation year of MSITA, and Ms. Mackey has led numerous MaWD workshops for ExplorNet. Their focus will be on giving teachers a customizable plan of action, helping them prepare to take the exams themselves, and showing effective ways to prepare students for certification. Day One begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m., with a one-hour break for lunch. Day Two (Saturday) will be at a different location in order to enable testing. It will be held in Ms. Harris' classroom at Owen High School in Black Mountain. A map can be found at this page: http://www.explornet.org/training/owenhigh.htm. Day Two begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 1:00 p.m., with time for testing and time afterward for those who have questions or want additional assistance. Participants should bring their own MSITA login information. If possible, we recommend they take at least one appropriate Certiport exam before attending in order to better understand the discussion of certification and testing.
